Structure of the type-I clathrate G8(H',H'')46

Big electropositive metal atoms G (guest), usually of alkali or alkli earth elements (red), are incapsulated in cages formed in the covalently bonded framework of host atoms H' and H'' (yellow and grey). There are two types of cages in the type-I clathrate which are depicted here by two different colors (turquoise and pale-green).
